10 Day Kenya and Tanzania Safari

Tour summary

Classic heart of Kenya and Tanzania features Kenya’s and Tanzania most treasured national parks. Starting from Nakuru National Park one of the greatest ornithological sites in the world and a great rhino sanctuary in Kenya, to the Masai Mara Game Reserve and Serengeti National Park the arena to one of greatest spectacle on earth, the wildebeest migration. The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world whose rich pasture hosts over 30,000 animals. To Lake Manyara National Park which offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. The park is also famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. Accommodation is based on small luxury tented camps and lodges which offer personalized services and are ideal for families, couples and small groups. Transport is based on our well maintained safari minibus and land cruisers, with a flight from Mara to Serengeti making sure that you don’t miss any drama in the African Savannah! Day 1: Arrival Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be received by IvaMar Safaris’ driver/representative. You will then be transferred to Eka hotel. You will have dinner and ample rest.

 

Day 2: Lake Nakuru National park

After breakfast, you will be taken on a short briefing drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. The park boasts a huge variety of animals, including leopard which is often found snoozing on the branches of the magnificent yellow-barked acacias, lion, buffalo, hippo, waterbuck, warthog, baboon, the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe only found in this park in Kenya, white rhino and the rare black rhino which is protected and guarded here. You will have lunch and then set off for afternoon game drive. After the afternoon game drive, you will have your accommodation and dinner at Flamingo Hill Camp.

Day 3: Masai Mara National Reserve

After breakfast and a short briefing by your driver guide, you will be transferred to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. This will be just in time for the annual migration of over one million wildebeest.  You will arrive in time for lunch at your camp. In the afternoon, you will go for a brief game drive in Kenya’s most popular reserve. After the game drive, you will be transferred to Ashnil Mara Camp in time for campfire cocktails and dinner.

Day 4: Mara National Reserve

You will spend the day in the Mara. The Mara hosts Kenya’s largest lion prides and elephant herds. Other predators include leopard, cheetah and spotted hyena; while in the Mara River you will see fat pods of hippo and vast Nile crocodiles. The other highlights include giraffe tops, gazelle, zebra, buffalo and over 550 species of birds. You may want to fly over the Mara in a Hot air Balloon at an extra cost or visit a Masai village and get learn the Masai culture at an extra cost. After, you will be transferred to Ashnil Mara Camp for dinner and accommodation.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast this morning you will be transferred to Keekorok Airstrip where you will fly Migori. Upon arrival at Migori you will have a 30 minute road transfer to Isebania Immigrations and customs office then clear with the Immigration officials. You will then depart from Tarime airstrip arriving Serengeti~ Seronera airstrip where your Tanzania guides will be eagerly waiting for you. You will be transferred to Mbuzi Mawe Serena Camp with a game viewing en route. Lunch will be at your camp followed by relaxation. Later enjoy an afternoon classic safari supper in the Serengeti National Park. Overnight accommodation will be at Mbuzi Mawe Serena Camp.

Day 6: Serengeti National park

After breakfast, enjoy game driving in the vast and sensational Serengeti, which covers 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savannah. Venue for ‘the greatest wildlife show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest, the park is also renowned for its lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and plains game. Overnight at the camp at Mbuzi Mawe Serena Camp.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This morning depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area with picnic lunch boxes stopping en route at Ol Duvai Gorge. Known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’, this is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world. The famous Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area features rolling plains, lakes, craters, mountains and dormant volcanoes. You will arrive at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge in time for dinner and relaxation.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, descend into the ‘8th Wonder of the World’.  Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a fresh water lake and a glorious variety of birdlife. Here too are all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo). You will enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before climbing back up to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge in time for relaxation before dinner.

Day 9: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast drive to the beautiful Lake Manyara, a shallow alkaline lake that shimmers in a cleft in the Great Rift Valley.  Enjoy lunch and check in at your lodgeThen later enjoy an afternoon game viewing in Lake Manyara National Park famous for its tree climbing lions. Later return to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Departure

Drive to Arusha and spend time doing last minute shopping then later you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro airport for your flight back home.
