10 day Rwanda-Uganda Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali

On your arrival you will meet and greet at the Airport a representative of IvaMar safaris who will brief you on your trip and then transfer you to your accommodation and dinner at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Visit the Genocide Memorial Centre Transfer to Kinigi/Volcanoes National Park

After your morning breakfast you will be transferred to Genocide memorial centre. The Genocide Memorial centre at Gisozi honors the victims of the 1994 Genocide. It contains a cemetery, a house of exhibition on Genocide section; a library and it has a plan of teaching the history of genocide. There are about 250,000 victims buried there. It is the only memorial site in Kigali. You will also be taken on a tour of Kigali city. Lunch will be served in Kigali town. Diner and Overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 3: Kigali – Volcanoes national park

After breakfast you will be transferred to Kinigi- Ruhengeri, home of the endangered mountain gorillas and you will enjoy the beautiful terraced hillsides of Rwanda landscapes as you head to the base of Sabinyo Mountain one of the Virunga Volcanoes. Dinner and overnight at Mountain gorilla view lodge (FB).

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking plus a transfer to Lake Kivu

Transfer to the park headquarters for briefing after an early morning breakfast before going for gorilla trekking. Upon encountering the apes, you will have 1 hour with them. Trekking the great apes through the mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a thrilling experience. Return to the lodge for lunch before leaving for Lake Kivu in kyagungu for relaxation, Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel, Kivu. (FB).

Day 5: Kivu – Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

You will have your early breakfast and after you will be transferred  to Kisoro – Uganda at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. Enjoy the winding roads of the ‘thousand hills’ and magnificent views of the Volcanoes. Arrive in time for Lunch, after Lunch you will go for Batwa trail. The Batwa are an indigenous tribe that lived in the forest of the Virunga volcanoes and depended on it for livelihood before they were turned into national parks to help in conservation of the gorillas, golden monkeys, and other fauna and flora. This tour will take you through the Batwa trail which was developed together with Uganda Wildlife Authority to share their experience on how they co-existed with the wildlife and raised families in this jungle. Dinner and overnight at Clouds Lodge (FB)

Day 6: Kisoro – Queen Elizabeth national park

After your morning breakfast you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park via Ishaka through the Kigezi highlands. This will give you great view of Kabale Terraces. You will have a stopover at Lake Katwe, Lake Katwe salt industry is the main source of income among the inhabitants. They are still practising rudimentary mining of salt which helps them to make a living. Just like people in villages own gardens for cultivation, people in Lake Katwe own salt pans as their gardens – through which they acquire total sustainability. Dinner and Overnight at Mweya safari lodge (FB).

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth national park – Kibale forest national park

After an early morning warm up tea or coffee, you will head for a game drive along Kasenyi tracks and Queens mile in search of animals like: lions, elephants, cape buffalos, warthogs, spotted hyenas, mangoose, waterbucks, kobs and, if you’re lucky, the leopard, and a great number of bird species, return for a full breakfast. After breakfast you will transfer to Kibale Forest national park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range most of the journey. Dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge (FB).

Day 8: Kibale Forest national park

After an early morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the Chimpanzee tracking information office for a pre-briefing by the ranger guides who will then lead you into the rain forest in search of chimpanzees. These primates are very mobile and viewing them is unpredictable but a forest walk is an enriching activity that starts at 8.00 am taking about 4 to 5 hours. This forest is home to a large number of chimpanzees and other primates including L’hoestes, Red-colobus, Blues, Red-tailed, grey cheeked mangabeys, birds, and butterflies. The guide will provide a detailed explanation on not only primates but on all the forest’s fauna and flora. Returning to have your lunch at primate lodge.

After lunch, you will be transferred for bird watching experience with an opportunity to meet and interact with the local communities living here. Dinner and overnight at Kyaninga Lodge (FB).

Day 9: Kibale Forest national park – Murchison falls national park

After breakfast you will depart for Murchison Falls with your parked lunch and drive Southwest via the Albertine Escarpment of the Western Rift Valley, passing through verdant countryside tea plantations and traditional homesteads. After your visit will continue to Murchison falls national park. Dinner and overnight at Paraa safari lodge (FB).

Day 10: Murchison falls national park

After an early breakfast you will do a morning game drive where you will go in search of the wildlife like lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest. In Uganda, the Giraffes can only be viewed at Murchison Falls National Park and at Kidepo Valley Park. You will return back to the lodge for full breakfast. You will after the transferred to Kampala for you flight.

The estimated travelling hours are based on the actual hours of driving, stops for lunch or photos not included. Gorilla Permits are not guaranteed!! The permits can only be purchased once we have received your 100% payment for the Gorilla Permits. We will let you know as soon as you have decided to tour with us, if the permits are available on your day of request. Please know that the permits are very rare and booking upfront is really necessary.
