6 DAYS GORILLAS & LIONS SAFARI
Tour Summary
This safari will take you Kibaale Forest National Park well known for the Mountain Gorillas, and a game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, well known for the tree climbing lions. The safari will also take you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for breathtaking gorilla tracking escapades.
Day 1: Arrival
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be picked by our driver and transferred to Speke Resort Munyonyo for dinner and overnight accommodation. The five star hotel provides a range of services including; swimming pool, sauna and gym.
Day 2: Travel to Kibaale Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kibaale Forest National Park in Western Uganda. The journey will take you through the undulating hills of the Ruwenzori region. You will be checked into Rweteera Safari Park in the middle of the park. You will enjoy the evening breather listening to the jibber-jabbering of the red-tailed monkeys in the dense canopy.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking
After breakfast you will be transferred to the nearby briefing area where you will be welcomed by the park ranger guide. You will be briefed in the do’s and don’ts of chimp tracking before leading you into the forest for a lively adventure. You will view a variety of primates including; Black-and-white Colobus Monkey, Blue Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabey and Bushbaby. You will see wild chimpanzees feeding and socializing. At this time, you will be transferred to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, the local guide will take you through a wetland sanctuary with more than 100 species of birds and primates including the red colobus, black-and-white colobus and other monkeys. After this adventure, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
On this day, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after breakfast. You will proceed along the western Rift Valley where Queen Elizabeth National Park sits, stop at the Equator for a photo opportunity and proceed to Ishasha sector, home to the famous tree-climbing lions. You will see the lions in the afternoon before proceeding to Ishasha River at the hippo pool where you will delight in your packed lunch as you watch the hippos. You will exit Ishasha and drive to Bwindi through the village of Kigezi; the scenery gradually changes from open savanna to mountain slopes covered in dense green rain forest. You will be checked in at Mahogany Springs, a luxury small lodge facing the dense Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half the world’s endangered mountain gorillas.
Day 5: Mountain Gorilla Trekking
After breakfast, you will be briefed by the park guides, before you embark on gorilla trekking. You will encounter several gorilla families. You will enjoy an exciting journey along forested slopes, bushes and bamboo before you ultimately reach the gorilla family. The eye-to-eye encounters are extremely breathtaking. You will return to the lodge relax and in the evening go for a short community visit to interact with the Batwa. It is a Pygmy tribe that was evicted from the forest to pave way for gorilla conservation. You will surely enjoy their folklore. Late in the evening, you will be transferred back to the hotel for dinner.
